Book Review and Blog Tour – The Fog by Amanda McKinney

The Fog
Amanda McKinney
(A Berry Springs Novel)
Publication date: December 4th 2018
Genres: Adult, Mystery, Romance

Former Marine turned ballistics expert, Wesley Cross is known around town for two things, his rugged good-looks and cocky attitude—until he finds his ex-girlfriend lying in a puddle of blood in his basement. The scene screams setup, but the discovery of a rare gem and a puzzling autopsy suggests the murder goes much deeper than that. Wesley will do whatever it takes to clear his name, including calling in a notoriously headstrong—and sexy—scientist.

While most little girls were playing dress up, Gwyneth Reece was digging in the dirt collecting bugs. Now one of the top forensic entomologists in the country, Gwen reluctantly accepts a job from a pushy cowboy and travels to the small, Southern town of Berry Springs. Heavy storms are brewing, and when she’s forced to check into the creepiest hotel she’s ever seen, she instantly regrets her decision to help out the former Marine.

Following up on a tip, Wesley heads to the Half Moon Hotel but quickly realizes his visit was not by chance. The killer lured him there, and suddenly everyone from the uptight bellman to the wealthy couple just passing through town become suspect. Bodies begin to disappear, and Wesley knows the killer will do anything to get to him…. including hurting the woman who’s kept his head spinning since he first laid eyes on her.

Goodreads / Amazon

The Fog is the first book I have read my Amanda McKinney, but it won’t be my last. I seriously could not put this book down.
I am a sucker for a great mystery. Throw in some romance, and I’m a goner. This is just what Ms. McKinney has accomplished.
From the start, I had to keep turning pages to see what was coming next. Nothing is as it seems, and when a grisly murder takes place in the home of one of the town’s beloved men five years after two disturbing murders, it is apparent that Wes is being set up, but by whom, and why!?!?!
When Gwen, one of the leading forensic entomologists of the day, is brought in, she brings a clue to light that has Wes’ head spinning.
The characters are very well-deserved, the chemistry between them is sizzling and the story-line is so engaging!
This is a must-read for mystery lovers – the perfect blend of suspense, intrigue and romance!

Who is the first book in The Stalker Series by Megan Mitcham and the first of her books that I have read, but it certainly won’t be the last. It is the perfect combination of everything I love – intrigue, suspense and romance all bundled into an outstanding psychological thriller.
I really enjoyed Larkin’s character – intelligent, strong and courageous. She has a tough exterior, yet she also has a soft side for those she cares about.
The story line was full of fantastic twists and turns that kept me turning pages to see what happened next.
This is definitely a must-read if you are a fan of books that keep you guessing right up to the very end!

Book Review, Blog Tour and Giveaway! Love, Cutter by Michelle Jester

Love, Cutter
Michelle Jester
Publication date: August 28th 2018
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult

After an attempted suicide Carter finds himself in a coma. He is able to hear the world around him, yet he can’t move. What he hears propels Carter to begin to see life in a new way, especially when one of his nurses, Kinley, shares parts of her tragic past with him. Soon, Carter realizes he is falling in love with her.

Months after being transferred from the hospital, to a rehabilitation facility, he suddenly wakes up with a passion to live that he never had before and a determination to find the one person he feels may be able to help him put the pieces of his life together again. However, when he returns to the hospital, Kinley is gone and Carter must try to find her based solely on the things she shared with him while he was in a coma.

Only, nothing is as it seems and Carter learns the biggest lesson of them all… the differences between expectation, perception, and reality.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

Wow! What a story! I had no idea what I was getting into, but I was not expecting to go on such a roller coaster of emotion.

Carter, seeing no other way through his pain, attempts to take his life, and ends up in a coma. Kinley, assigned to him as his nurse, spends time each day talking and reading to him. What she doesn’t know is that through it all, Carter can hear her.

Over the course of Carter’s time in the hospital, a connection is formed, though Carter has never seen or spoken to Kinley. Out of concern for Kinley’s well-being and for her career, Big Bertha, the head nurse, has her transferred, having seen the signs of Florence Nightingale Syndrome before.

The emotional intensity of this book is EVERYTHING! A bond between two strangers has a trickle down effect on those around them, most unaware.

While this book deals with highly difficult subject matter, such as suicide, self-harm, and death, it is written in such a graceful manner that doesn’t dance around the hard edges, rather calling it like it is. It is a perfect telling of self-discovery and overcoming adversity. The underlying message is that hope is everything.

Goodreads / Amazon

I have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed Medallion of Murder, the third book in the Nefertari Hughes mystery series! While it is geared to young adults, I found myself completely immersed into the mayhem surrounding Nefertari “Terry” Hughes and her Scooby Doo gang.

I loved the characters – each and every one of them, and I especially enjoyed the fact that right until the end, I had no idea who the bad guy was.

The plot is full of twists and turns that kept me turning pages to see what happened next. I loved that the book was steeped in ancient Egyptian history.

I am really excited for the next book in the series!

Book Review, Blog Tour and Giveaway – The Telling (The Spinner Sagas) by KJ Moullen

The Telling
Kj Moullen
(The Spinner Sagas)
Publication date: May 1st 2018
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Sixteen-year-old Blaine was a normal teenage girl. Sure, she moved around a lot, but that wasn’t completely weird, right? Then her mom tells her she’s actually from another dimension called Renault, whose inhabitants can do magic. Um, what? Suddenly, Blaine is running from an evil she barely understands. Blaine is thrust into the confusing, beautiful, and magical world of Renault with a mysterious boy she just met. There, she begins to discover her own unique abilities and her place in the universe.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble

When I began reading The Telling, I wasn’t sure that I was going to enjoy it. It has a bit of a slow, confusing start; however, I kept reading and I am so glad I did.

The imagery is phenomenal, the descriptions of the landscapes are breathtaking and it is so easy to visualize them. Of course, once Kern, the unicorn entered the picture, it was on! Anyone that knows me knows that I am obsessed with unicorns!

The characters are beautifully developed and I found myself wanting to know more about them. Blaine is a strong heroine, who doesn’t realize just how incredible she is.

The storyline, itself, moves along at a fast pace, once you get through the beginning. There is plenty of fantastic adventure and action to keep you wanting more. I actually found myself on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happened next.

This is a must-read for lovers of YA fantasy! All in all, very well done!

Blog Tour and Book Review – When Time Stands Still by Sara Furlong Burr

When Time Stands Still
Sara Furlong Burr
Publication date: June 15th 2018
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

It’s been nearly a decade since Elle Sloan last saw Luke Hutchins. Close to ten years since she broke up with him over a single phone call, providing him with little explanation. Since the end of their relationship, Elle has done everything she could do to move on, marrying, proceeding forward with her life, almost allowing herself to completely forget about Luke.

Almost.

Out of nowhere, Elle receives a phone call from Luke’s mother. Luke has been in a horrific car accident and, a month later, has just awoken from a coma. However, instead of celebrating, his family is stunned to learn that Luke is suffering from amnesia and only remembers his life as it was before his breakup with Elle. Not wanting to tell Luke that he and Elle aren’t together anymore for fear it may compromise his recovery, Elle is asked by Luke’s family to come to the hospital to see him. Their hope is that she will slowly be able to jog his memory and cushion the blow.

Guilt-ridden over how their relationship ended, Elle readily agrees, finding herself transported back in time with Luke to the life they once shared and the future they could have had together.

Goodreads / Amazon

Oh how I loved this story! It was incredibly beautiful in its simplicity. No flowery language that makes you want to skip pages, yet so romantic that my heart hurt.

The characters were phenomenal – Luke, having suffered a traumatic brain injury, and as a result has no recollection of the last 10 years of his life. Elle, Luke’s ex-girlfriend walked out on him with only a phone call, afraid she will never be worthy of him. Now, they are brought back together in the hopes that she can help him recover his lost memories, only he doesn’t remember the break-up or anything since.

The story takes us along on Luke’s journey through recovery, while flashing back to their time together. It is heart-wrenching and refreshing at the same time. I don’t normally prefer books that jump back and forth between periods of time; however, this was so well-written that the transitions were natural.

Again, this was a beautifully romantic read and fans of a HEA will love it!

Blog Tour and Exclusive Excerpt – Wings Of Flesh and Bone by Catarina Constantine

Wings of Flesh and Bones
Cathrina Constantine
Publication date: April 13th 2018
Genres: Fantasy, Paranormal, Young Adult

An Angel. A Witch. A Demon. And A Choice.

Creatures from outer realms suck, as any gatekeeper worth their salt will tell you. Welcome to Rogan’s life, an orphaned seventeen-year-old who lives and trains with other misfits under her uncle’s roof, keeping Earth safe from non-human realm jumpers. Rogan’s biggest issue concerns her uncle’s short leash with her freedom—that is of course, until she’s taken by a notorious witch, and her life begins to unravel. Soon, the supernatural beauty discovers there’s a reason her uncle kept such a tight lock on her whereabouts, and that she has more than angel blood running through her veins.

Eighteen-year-old Max is an angel, and Rogan’s mentor and guardian. He’s well aware of her tenacious inability to obey orders, though he also knows she’s a fierce fighter. When he’s involved in a scheme that ultimately gets Rogan kidnapped, he must battle his way back to her in an attempt to save her from the darkness threatening to possess her.

Goodreads / Amazon

For months now, Max had labored to increase her equilibrium and agility. Making her run, hop, and jump over a balance beam. Then he’d taken her outside and taught her how to scale the bricked fortress in the dead of night—and she was proud to say she was even better than Jenna. Tonight, with the aid of moonlight splashing the facade, it should be a cinch.

Rogan pirouetted on her tippy-toes to begin her descent and bungled her footing. Jetting her arms out to cling onto anything she could, she yelped. “Max!” She caught a glimpse of him on the ledge. He didn’t even twitch a finger to help. Whether it was the moonlight playing tricks or the shading, he appeared jaded, as if her trip to death was boring him.

A flurry of fearful thoughts crossed her mind in a span of seconds. Why won’t Max save me? Will I meet my father in heaven? Will they bury me in this lame outfit?

Cover Reveal and Giveaway! Storm of the Gods by A. R. Braun

Storm of the Gods
Amy Braun
(An Areios Brothers Novel)
Publication date: August 27th 2018
Genres: Adult, Urban Fantasy

The first in a brand new urban fantasy series where gods roam and mortals fight, STORM OF THE GODS follows two brothers who are caught in a conspiracy revolving around ancient artifacts, and find themselves siding with their supposed enemies rather than the Olympian who demands their loyalty…

Thirty years ago, the gods of Greek legend returned to the world. Their return restored their powers, which had been spent in a cataclysmic battle with the Titans. With the ancient deities imprisoned in Tartarus, the Olympians now reside in Néo Vasíleio, formerly known as California.

Twenty-four-year-old Derek Aerios is a war scion, a descendent of Ares, the God of War. He and his brother, eighteen-year-old Liam, capture mythological creatures and rogue scions as part of Ares’s elite military force. As he struggles to cope with his violent powers and the scars of a traumatic childhood, Derek tries to keep the two vows he has made: protect his brother, and never kill a human again.

But when Ares forces him to hunt and kill four rogue scions under Athena’s control—by threatening Liam’s life—Derek chooses to go after the scions in order to save his brother and keep his promise to himself.

Yet the closer Derek gets to the scions, the more he realizes that his orders are part of a deeper conspiracy that put him at odds with his mission and his conscience. Athena may not be the enemy, a traitor could be in their midst, and the Titans could be closer to freedom than ever before.

Book Blitz and Giveaway! The Boyfriend Experience by J. A. Huss

The Boyfriend Experience
J.A. Huss
(Jordan’s Game, #3)
Publication date: May 30th 2018
Genres: New Adult Romance Comedy

From NYT Bestselling Author, JA Huss, comes a new sexy standalone in the Jordan’s Game series.

I NEED A BOYFRIEND… and I need one now…

WANTED
One bad-ass man with boyfriend experience.
Must be willing to fight dirty and work weekends, nights, and overtime.
Bad attitude a must. Bonus points if you’re hot, athletic, and sporting tattoos.

When I asked Jordan Wells for a Boyfriend Experience game I didn’t expect to get stuck with billionaire real-estate agent, Lawton Ayers. He doesn’t exactly fit the job description.

WANTED
One professional woman with business experience.
Must be willing to build a future together.
Successful entrepreneur a must. Bonus points if you’re a crazy local legend.

When Jordan Wells offered up Oaklee Ryan a last-minute business partner to seal a deal I’ve been working on for years, I didn’t expect beautiful, sexy, and multi-orgasmic to be on her list of qualifications.

But that’s what I got. And she’s perfect just the way she is.

Too bad she doesn’t want me to be HER boyfriend. Because she bought me for someone else…

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

EXCERPT:

She’s smiling up at me, her brown eyes turned slightly yellow from the glow of the lights, her cheeks pink. Flushed from the exertion of sex. Her breathing slower now, but not her heart. Because I can feel it underneath me.

Still pounding.

Waiting for more.

Trying to match mine.

So we can keep time together.

I think that’s what hearts do. Keep time. Keep everything together. Keep this crazy thing called life in perspective.

“One more time here,” I say. “Then I’ll take you inside so I can get you naked.”

It’s too cold to make her take her clothes off. Even though I know she’d do that if I asked her to. I can already feel the chill of her beneath me. But my body heat will help. Will protect her from the cold.

The deluxe package includes a boyfriend blanket on a cold night.

She opens her legs, reaches down between them to pull her panties aside, and my hips adjust enough to allow my cock to slide up to her opening. Her fingers are grabbing my shoulder now. And even through the leather I can feel them dig.

I want to take the jacket off so she can leave marks on me. I want there to be nothing between us. But I want her to be on the bottom at least once. So she can look up and see the surreal fantasy version of the underside of her water tower just like I did. So we can share that special feeling of being with someone you adore in a way that can’t be repeated.

No one will ever make love to her like this again. Not even me. Because this is a moment and moments pass into other moments and no two are ever alike.

She thrusts her hips upward, trying to force me to enter her. I just grin, because not gonna happen. Not until I say so, at least.

“Come on,” she whispers, watching me intently. “Let’s go.”

“We’ve got time. There’s no rush.”

She thrusts upward again. “There is a rush. A rush I want to experience again. Don’t make me beg, Lawton Ayers.”

“Begging?” I ask playfully. “Is that something you do?”

She giggles, then gets serious real quick. She frowns. Pouts her lips. Widens her eyes. “Please,” comes out like a whimper. Like she’s been wounded and needs relief. Relief only I can administer.

“Just take a moment, Oaklee. Feel it with me.”

Her eyes narrow slightly. Like she’s trying to figure out what I’m asking.

“The game is over,” I say. “That’s what I want you to feel. We passed it by some time ago. I’m not sure when, exactly. But the game is over.”

“OK,” she says, her face relaxing. The pout is gone. The confusion is gone. And all her expectations seem to melt away. “We’re real,” she whispers.
